80,00

On the eve of its 115th anniversary, Myjava by Július Bodnár returns – a timeless portrait of a land, its people, and their spirit. Written with the heart of a pastor, the eye of an ethnographer, and the mind of a historian, it captures the voice and soul of the Kopanice hills. Reissued to honour the author and the living roots of tradition. A book that reminds us: the memory of a place is a gift worth keeping.

Product Description

The story behind this edition

First published in 1911, Július Bodnár’s Myjava became more than a local chronicle – it was a monument to the life and culture of an entire region. With a historian’s precision and a storyteller’s heart, Bodnár preserved the songs, customs and everyday rhythms of the Kopanice people. This new edition revives his masterpiece more than a century later, as a tribute to the author and to the belief that our roots matter only when we keep them alive. It appears alongside the renewed Myjavská Slivovica – both born from the same idea: that the past still speaks to us, and that tradition lives on when we choose to remember it.

Honouring the makers

This edition pays tribute to two men of courage and vision: Július Bodnár, who gave Myjava its written soul, and Daniel Pažický, the local printer who dared to publish such a monumental work in 1911. Their faith in the power of words and in the value of culture continues to resonate today. The new edition was created out of respect for their legacy – not as nostalgia, but as a quiet reminder that the stories of the past still shape who we are.

Design and craftsmanship

The design draws on the spirit of the original Art Nouveau aesthetic while embracing clarity and refinement for today’s reader. Created by Eduard Timko (Ateliér EDO, s.r.o.) and printed by Kasico a.s., Bratislava, the book reflects meticulous craftsmanship and enduring elegance. It stays true to its origins yet feels fresh and timeless – a bridge between past and present, between memory and rediscovery.
